Toro is a Latin American-inspired restaurant in Chicago known for its vibrant small plates, fresh seafood, and creative craft cocktails.
One of the standout cocktails is the Mercado Margarita, made with jalapeño-infused tequila, passion fruit, lime, and hibiscus with rosemary foam. The drink strikes a perfect balance between sweet, spicy, and citrusy notes, and the presentation is just as impressive as the flavor.

To begin the meal, we ordered a selection of shared appetizers: Smoked Guacamole, Swordfish Dip, Toro Fries, and Sweet Corn Empanadas.
The Swordfish Dip stood out for its fresh seafood flavor, while the Sweet Corn Empanadas added a subtle sweetness that complemented the savory dishes. The Toro Fries were crispy and well-seasoned, and the Smoked Guacamole brought a rich, smoky depth that tied everything together.
For the main dish, I ordered the catch of the day—branzino served with grilled avocado, corn pico de gallo, and grilled lemon.
The fish was incredibly fresh with a light, flaky texture. The grilled lemon added brightness that elevated each bite, while the corn pico de gallo and avocado brought freshness and subtle sweetness that balanced the dish well.

Toro delivers a refined take on Latin American cuisine in Chicago, with a strong focus on fresh seafood, vibrant small plates, and well-executed cocktails. The swordfish dip and branzino were highlights of the meal, showcasing the restaurant’s ability to keep dishes light yet flavorful.
