Petite Edith

Petite Edith is one of the newest additions to Chicago’s River North dining scene, created by the team behind Esmé. Known for its elevated French-inspired cuisine and polished atmosphere, the restaurant has quickly become a standout for a refined night out in the city.

To start the evening, I ordered the Conicule, made with mezcal, Salers, and citrus. The drink balanced smoky, bitter, and citrus notes.

An unexpected bonus dish turned into one of the highlights of the night.

  • Foie Gras with leeks and apple butter: My first time trying foie gras, and it delivered a rich, buttery bite balanced by the subtle sweetness of the apple butter.

  • Fougasse with olives, rosemary, lavender, and white anchovy: This herb-forward flatbread was packed with flavor and had an aromatic profile.

Both dishes reflected the restaurant’s French influence and attention to detail.

The caviar served on a crispy potato fritter was a perfectly executed bite—crispy, salty, and indulgent without being overly heavy.

One of the standout dishes of the night was the Pain au Fromage, served with a baguette, three cheeses, pomegranate, and molasses. The richness of the cheese paired beautifully with the sweetness of the pomegranate and molasses, creating a balanced bite that leaned both savory and slightly sweet.

For my main course, I ordered the Steak au Poivre, served with a peppercorn and cognac sauce. The steak was incredibly tender, and the sauce offered a slightly different take on the classic preparation—still rich and peppery, but with a unique flavor that made it stand out.

To round out the meal, we ordered the Franklin Frites, which were perfectly crisp and paired well with the steak and other dishes on the table.

Petite Edith delivers a memorable dining experience in River North, combining classic French techniques with modern flavors. From trying foie gras for the first time to enjoying a perfectly cooked steak, the meal felt elevated. While it leans toward the pricier side, the quality and ambiance make it a great choice for a special occasion or a more elevated dinner in Chicago.
