Maxwells Trading has long been on my list of anticipated Chicago restaurants, and after finally dining there, it has earned a spot at the top. Known for its farm-to-table menu with fresh herbs, seasonal vegetables, and bold flavors, Maxwells Trading delivers a unique and unforgettable dining experience.

We kicked off our meal with the Caesar Salad and Prosciutto & Gnoccho Frito. While both were excellent introductions to the menu, my favorite was the prosciutto dish, served with caprino cheese, black-currant pepper jam, and dough bites. The combination of sweet and savory flavors made it a standout starter.

Another highlight from the appetizers was the French Onion Dip served with truffle oil, chives, and scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were perfectly crispy, and the dip itself was rich, flavorful, and something I could easily order multiple times.

For the next course, we tried the Japanese Sweet Potato with a bruleed crust and the Soup Dumpling Tortellini with pork shoulder and mushrooms. Both dishes were creative and unique, but the tortellini truly stole the show, delivering the essence of a soup dumpling in pasta form—a must-try.

For mains, we ordered the Redfish with bouillabaisse sauce, tomato, fennel, and vinaigrette. The fish was light yet flavorful, perfectly complemented by the rich sauce. We also had the Half Chicken a la Brasa, featuring andouille, navy beans, salsa verde, and fresh herbs. The crispy crust and bold seasoning made this dish one of my favorites of the night.

No meal at Maxwells Trading is complete without dessert. The Basque Butter Cake with corn, blueberry, and thyme was the perfect ending. The buttery cake paired with fresh blueberries and subtle thyme flavor created a memorable, decadent finish to our meal.

Maxwells Trading exceeded all my expectations. Every dish on the menu was unique, bold, and full of flavor, making it one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for an exceptional meal, Maxwells Trading is a must-visit Chicago restaurant that will leave you eager to return.
