Sawada Coffee has been on my Chicago coffee list for a while, so I finally stopped in to try one of their most well-known drinks. Located in the West Loop and known for its creative specialty lattes, Sawada Coffee has built a strong reputation for unique, Japanese-inspired coffee drinks that stand out in Chicago’s coffee scene.

After talking with the barista, I ordered the famous Military Latte made with espresso, matcha, vanilla, and cocoa powder, and I added extra vanilla for a slightly sweeter flavor. The combination was surprisingly balanced—the bold espresso and earthy matcha blended smoothly with the milk and vanilla. It’s a rich, creamy, and unique latte that I’d absolutely order again.
