D’Amato’s Bakery in Chicago’s West Town has been on my must-try list for quite some time, and I finally had the chance to stop by and try some of their famous subs and desserts. Known for its old-school Italian flavors and freshly baked bread, D’Amato’s absolutely lived up to the hype.
I was first drawn to D’Amato’s after seeing rave reviews of their Vodka Chicken Parm Sub, and it did not disappoint. Served on house-made bread, this sub is packed with bold, rich flavors and the perfect amount of creamy vodka sauce. Every bite was indulgent and satisfying—exactly what I hoped for from a classic Italian sub.

To balance the richness of the parm, we also tried the Chicken Caesar Sub. This one was lighter, with fresh lettuce and breaded chicken. While the textures were great, I would have loved a bit more of that classic Caesar dressing flavor to come through. Still, it served as a great contrast to the vodka parm.

We couldn’t leave without trying something sweet, and the Cannoli Dip Plate was the perfect choice. This deconstructed dessert featured crisp cannoli shells served with a generous scoop of ricotta cream in the center. Honestly, I might have enjoyed this more than a traditional cannoli—the ricotta was creamy, lightly sweet, and addicting. I could’ve eaten it with a spoon.

If you’re in the mood for a hearty, flavor-packed Italian meal, D’Amato’s Bakery is a must-visit. The Vodka Chicken Parm Sub alone is worth the trip, but don’t skip the Cannoli Dip Plate—it’s easily one of the best takes on a classic cannoli I’ve had in Chicago.
