Kanji Sushi

At last – I’ve been waiting for a sushi place like Kanji to be in Cincinnati and it is finally here.

I went against my golden rule of not trying a sushi place before it’s been open for three months, and a friend and I dined in on the opening weekend. Although I had my reservations, everything just phenomenal.

The cocktail menu was different than any that I had seen before – shrub drinks? My friend and I did not know what a shrub drink was, but the waitress explains that it contains natural sugars and flavors with apple cider vinegar. Sounds gross, but we were open to trying new things, so my friend got the Sweet Heat, and I got the Ginger Bae. I was surprisingly impressed with the cocktail, and I can now say that I’m a fan of these shrub cocktails.

One of the best parts of the restaurant is that all of the sushi was ½ off. Now, I’m not sure if that’s because they just opened or if it will be like that all of the time, but I was excited. We tried the Rainbow Roll, Crunch Munch, Red Devil Roll, and Elder St. Roll which were all amazing.

I will be going back to Kanji and trying more of the menu because it was that great. I’m happy to have a sushi place like this in Cincinnati, and I can’t wait to go back. City Spritz Ranking – 6/10

Kanji: 1739 Elm St.
