There’s something about sipping cocktails on a rooftop that just hits differently—especially in Chicago during the summer. Add fresh sushi and skyline views, and you’ve got the perfect evening. That’s exactly what I found during happy hour at IO Godfrey Rooftop Lounge, a chic rooftop bar in River North serving up great drinks and seafood. To kick off the evening, I started with a glass of prosecco from their happy hour menu.

For our first shared plate, we tried the Tuna and Hamachi Tacos, served with chili oil, yuzu gel, pickles, peppers, and a crispy wonton shell. These bite-sized tacos were refreshing, well-balanced, and packed with flavor—just the right start before diving into sushi.

Our first roll of the evening was the Spicy Tuna, made with fresh tuna, cucumber, chili oil, and tobanjan paste. This roll was clean, light, and full of heat from the chili oil—a solid, classic choice that paired well with prosecco.

Next up was the Firecracker Roll, a bold combination of yellowtail, guacamole, yuzu, cilantro, jalapeño, and chili oil. I’ve never had guacamole on sushi before, but it surprisingly worked—the roll had layers of spicy, citrusy, and creamy flavors that stood out from the rest of the menu.

Between the amazing rooftop views, creative sushi rolls, and relaxing vibes, my Monday evening at IO Godfrey Rooftop Lounge was the ideal city escape. If you're looking for a rooftop in Chicago for sushi, cocktails, and skyline views, this is the spot.
